The lav drain valve on a 737 that fought me for 3 days straight at Midway
So I'm in Chicago at Midway working a heavy check on an old 737-800, and I get tagged to pull and swap a lav drain valve. Simple job, maybe an hour, right? Wrong. The valve body was seized so bad I snapped two breaker bars trying to crack the bolts loose, and I had to soak the thing in Kroil overnight just to get it to budge. Day two I finally get it out, and the new valve won't seat because the flange surface has pitting I couldn't see until I hit it with a light. I end up spending another shift dressing the surface with a stone and making a shim out of .032 stock just to get a seal. Three days on a one hour job, and the worst part is the log entry just says valve replaced. Anybody got a trick for getting these old drain valves off without destroying half the hardware?
