TIL a pilot at the FBO in Daytona called my torque wrench a 'clicky toy'

He was waiting on his pre-flight and watched me setting the torque on a prop bolt, then said 'You guys and your clicky toys, just get it tight.' I had to explain that 250 inch-pounds isn't a feeling, it's a spec. How do you handle people who don't get the precision side of the job?

Remember my buddy's engine that rattled loose? His mechanic just "felt" it was tight enough.

Your buddy's mechanic must have a magic touch, @lisak26. That "feel" is gonna cost more than a torque wrench.

Oh man, @rubyschmidt is totally right. That "feel" talk is just asking for trouble. I've seen bolts strip out or come loose because someone thought they had the magic touch. You gotta use the right tools, or you're just guessing.
