Back in '08 I bought a whole pallet of those old magnetic contacts

They were cheap, like $1.50 each, and I figured I'd use them for years. Then everyone switched to wireless sensors and I was stuck with about $800 worth of useless gear. What do you guys do with old stock that's just taking up space now?

That "stuck with useless gear" feeling is the worst. I sold a bunch of my old wired stuff on a local electronics forum for parts. It didn't get all my money back, but it cleared out the space.

Remember trying to sell my old DSLR kit last year. People only wanted the lens and ignored the body, which felt pretty typical from what I saw. Ended up giving the camera to a nephew just to get it out of the house.

$800 in magnetic contacts man that hurts. I did something similar with a pallet of CR123A batteries back in 2013. Thought they'd be good forever then everything went to rechargeable lithium packs. Ended up giving half of them to a friend who still ran old trail cameras. Sold the rest on Craigslist for like 20 cents each just to get rid of them. Definitely learned my lesson about buying massive bulk lots of tech that's already starting to fade.
