The friend who swore subs over dubs, I gave in finally

My buddy Jake kept pushing me to watch the subbed version of a show I loved, and I kept saying no because I hate reading while action happens. Last week I finally tried it with a 12 episode series I had already seen dubbed once. Turns out the voice acting had way more emotion and the jokes landed better, it felt like a whole different show. I still watch dubs for background noise, but for big moments I am converted now. Anyone else have a friend who was annoyingly right about this?
