I sat down Friday night to watch the first season of 'Made in Abyss' because everyone said the worldbuilding was amazing. By Sunday afternoon I had finished both seasons and the movie and my head was spinning from how dark it got so fast. Did anyone else get that hollow feeling after a heavy show that just sticks with you for a week?

I went back to episode 1 last night and seeing Eren all naive and crying under that tree made me realize how much he changed over 10 years of airing, and I don't know if I feel bad for him or respect him more now.

Thought I was too old for anime until my nephew showed me Vinland Saga

I'm 46 and always figured anime was just weird kid stuff with big eyes and screaming. My nephew came over to help me pour a small concrete pad in my backyard last summer and he wouldn't shut up about this show Vinland Saga. He made me watch the first episode on his laptop while we waited for the mix to set. I gotta admit, the way they showed the viking stuff and that main guy's journey from revenge to something else really hooked me. Has anyone else had a show completely flip your opinion on a whole genre like that?

TIL I've been watching anime at 1.5x speed for 2 years and never noticed

I was over at my buddy Mark's place last week and he put on the new episode of Dungeon Meshi. I sat there for like 10 minutes thinking something was off, like the voices were dragging or something. Then I realized he plays everything at normal speed. I've been binging shows on Crunchyroll at 1.5x speed since 2022 because I thought I was saving time. Everything felt rushed but I just figured that's how modern anime is. Now I go back and watch old scenes I loved and they hit totally different. The pauses, the sound design, the emotional beats. I screwed up so many first watch experiences. Has anyone else done this and felt like an idiot?

So I'm sitting in my living room in Buffalo last Tuesday, finally binging that new isekai everyone's been hyping about. I got my snacks ready, my headphones on, the whole setup. Around episode 4, this one mosquito decides I'm its personal buffet and starts buzzing right in my ear every 5 minutes. I tried ignoring it, swatting blindly, even hiding under a blanket in 80 degree heat. Nothing worked. Finally after missing like half the dialogue in a big fight scene, I got up, grabbed a empty toilet paper roll, and went full ninja mode hunting it down for 20 minutes. Found it chilling on my ceiling fan blade and took it out with a single strike. Has anyone else had a tiny pest completely wreck a perfect anime night before?

Spent $80 on a Crunchyroll subscription for a year and it actually saved me money

I used to buy every anime on Blu-ray as it came out. Dropped like $50 per season on just one show. Then I tried Crunchyroll for a year at $80 total. I've watched maybe 30 shows since then. Way cheaper than buying discs. My wallet is happier but my shelf looks sad now. Anyone else switch from buying physical to streaming?

Rewatching a show from 2021 hit different last night

I was scrolling through Crunchyroll around 2 AM last Tuesday and decided to throw on an old show I first watched during lockdown in 2021. Back then I binged 12 episodes in one sitting on a Thursday night, didn't sleep, and thought it was the greatest thing ever. This time around I noticed so many plot holes and weird pacing issues that I completely missed before. Part of me wonders if I was just bored and desperate for entertainment back then, or if my standards actually went up. The animation still holds up though, I will give it that.
