Had a week where every single ice maker I touched fought back

Three calls in five days, all with ice makers that looked fine until I dug into them - one had a bad auger motor that was making this awful grinding noise, another had a water valve that was barely dribbling. Has anyone else had a run of bad luck like that with just one type of appliance?

I mean, yeah, that grinding noise on an auger motor is brutal. But maybe it's just me, I keep wondering if these ice makers are getting built with cheaper parts across the board, you know? Like, maybe the water valve you found that was barely dribbling isn't a fluke, maybe the quality control on those specific valves is just garbage now. Feels like they're designed to last just past the warranty and then they're done. Kind of makes me think about buying a used one that's older and built tougher, even if it's not as fancy.

Right there with you @felix147. I had two ice maker calls last month where the water valves were so bad they looked brand new but couldn't push water through a straw. Feels like they're rushing them out the door with whatever parts they can get cheapest.
