Old Frigidaire top seal finally stopped weeping, found it by smell
Had a unit in Tacoma that kept losing refrigerant, I chased it for three visits with dye and everything. Finally traced it to the suction line where it passes the defrost heater, the taped joint had a hairline crack only visible at 40x. Used a $35 inspection camera from Harbor Freight to spot it, worked better than the fancy boroscope my old boss swore by. Anyone else had luck with cheap cameras over the expensive ones for sealed system work?

...man, I feel you on that frustration, chasing a leak for three visits is the worst kind of slow burn. The cheap camera just gave me the excuse to look closer at that spot, and honestly, sometimes you need that little nudge to trust your gut. It's nice to know I'm not the only one who's been saved by a bargain bin tool over the fancy stuff.

That 40x crack find is wild, but did the cheap camera actually help you spot the leak before you pulled the tape off, or was it just luck that you happened to look there?
