A climber on my crew changed my mind about rigging the whole crown in one go
I always dropped a big oak's limbs in one shot if I could, but Marcus argued for three separate cuts on a red oak out in Fairmount last Tuesday. He said a single 800 pound piece swinging free puts way too much load on the rigging point and the trunk itself. After watching the rope barely stretch on his cuts, I get it now. Does anyone else split their crown like that even when the tree looks sturdy enough for one big drop?
