Found a stash of broken clay pots at a dig near Tucson, but one trick saved the whole site.

I finally figured out that rinsing pottery sherds in warm water for 10 minutes reveals hidden markings you can't see when they're dry, has anyone else tried this and was I just late to the party?

And warm water makes the dirt soft enough to actually clean them without damage.
