I thought the 'lost city' claims near my town in Montana were just a hoax for tourists.

Then a team from the university found actual foundations and pottery shards dating back 800 years. Has anyone else had a local legend turn out to be true?

But come on, foundations and old pottery don't prove a whole lost city. That could just be one small camp or a trading post that got blown up into a legend over time. People see a few rocks and their brains fill in the rest with stories. It's like that cave painting hoax in Arizona everyone believed until some kid admitted his grandpa did it. Finding something old doesn't automatically make every wild story true.

That's wild they found real stuff. Eight hundred years is way older than I would have guessed for that area. Makes you wonder what else is buried out there that we just walk right past. Our local ghost story seems a lot more possible now.

Old pottery doesn't exactly scream lost civilization though. People lived everywhere. A few broken dishes and some rocks are just normal old stuff. Ghost stories get attached to any empty field if you ask me. Not saying it's not cool, just maybe not that deep.
