Laughed at my uncle's backyard 'arrowhead' for 15 years, then a museum in Ohio said it was 9,000 years old
My uncle Doug has a shoebox of rocks he pulled out of a creek bed in southern Ohio back in 2008. Every family cookout he'd hand them around and swear they were arrowheads. We all rolled our eyes. They looked like plain old gravel to me. Last month he finally took them to a small museum in Columbus for a free identification day. The archaeologist took one look and got real quiet. Two of them were Paleo-Indian points, maybe 9,000 to 11,000 years old. She said the flaking pattern on the edge was the giveaway. Doug has not stopped talking about it since. Now I feel like a jerk for every time I called them driveway rocks. Anyone else have a relative sitting on something real and nobody believed them?
