PSA: dropped $70 on a cheap 'beginner' metal detector and found nothing but pull tabs for 5 months
I got into relic hunting after watching too many videos and figured the $70 Amazon special would be fine for learning the ropes before I upgraded. Five months of swinging that thing around a farm field outside Lawrence later, all I had to show was a coffee can of rusty nails and bottle caps, and I found out the hard way the thing can't tell a nickel from a horseshoe. Has anyone here actually found real stuff with a budget machine, or am I just out the cash until I save up for a real one?
