Vent: I thought sifting was overrated until a dig partner called me out
Last summer at a site near Tucson, I was pulling artifacts out of a screen with 1/4 inch mesh and tossing the dust without a second look. My dig partner, a retired teacher named Dana, watched me for about 20 minutes and then said, "You're losing microdebitage and that's where the story lives." I brushed it off for two days until she showed me a tiny flake I had thrown out that turned out to be from a tool-making spot. Now I run everything through a 1/16 inch screen and bag the fines separately. Has anyone else had a partner make them rethink their whole field method?
