My garage freezer died on a Wednesday and I lost $200 worth of food

Last week my old chest freezer just stopped working. I didn't notice for almost three days because I only open it on weekends for bulk meat. When I finally checked, everything was thawed and soggy. Lost about $200 in chicken, beef, and frozen veggies I'd stocked up on from a sale. Had to bag it all up and haul it to the dump in trash bags. Has anyone else had a freezer conk out on them without warning?

Hang on, I gotta push back on this a little. If you're only opening a chest freezer on weekends and didn't notice it was dead for three days, that's kind of on you for not checking it sooner. Freezers fail all the time, it's not like they give you a heads up. A quick peek every day or every other day would've saved you some of that meat, at least. Sorry you lost the food though, that does suck.

Ngl, you're right. A quick daily check takes like 10 seconds and could've saved most of that food before it went bad.
