Unpopular opinion: I used to think a 4-inch grinder was fine for everything until I saw a guy in Omaha zip through a 3/4-inch bevel with a 7-inch in half the time.

I switched to a 7-inch Metabo for all my heavy plate prep about a year ago and now I won't go back, but what's your go-to wheel brand for those big grinders?

PSA: I was wrong about using a 4-foot bull float on every pour

An old timer named Carl at a job in Boise told me my 4-footer was causing waves on bigger slabs over 20 yards. He said to switch to a 6-foot for anything over 15 feet wide. I tried it on a garage floor last week and the finish was way flatter. Anyone else have a size rule they stick to?

My buddy said AI art was just a fun toy, but a local artist in Austin lost a gig because of it.

He kept saying these generators were harmless and wouldn't take real jobs. Then I saw a post from a graphic designer I follow, she said a client replaced her with an AI for a $500 logo job, using her old portfolio to train it. That's not a toy, that's taking food off someone's table. Changed my whole view on where this is headed. How do we even make rules for something that moves this fast?

Pro tip: Saw a local bakery's Instagram Reels and their numbers are wild

I was at The Daily Grind coffee shop in Springfield yesterday and noticed the bakery next door had a line out the door. The owner told me they started posting 3 Instagram Reels a week about their baking process 4 months ago, and their follower count went from 800 to over 12k. It made me think about how powerful simple, behind-the-scenes content can be for local businesses. Has anyone else seen a small business blow up just from focusing on one social platform like that?

I just spent $40 on a 'Save The OA' t-shirt and it made me rethink everything

I always thought fan campaigns were a waste of time (and money), but buying this shirt and seeing the organized push online actually convinced me. The show's creators had a full five-season plan, and ending it after two left so much story on the table. Has anyone else here put cash toward a revival campaign that actually felt worth it?

My new band saw blade snapped on a frozen quarter last month

Everyone says to buy the expensive carbide tipped ones, but this was a brand new one from a big name supplier. It just gave out on a normal cut, no binding or anything. Has anyone else had this happen with a fresh blade on a standard cut?

Pro tip: stop using that old multimeter for fridge compressors

I was at a job in a high rise downtown, working on a fancy fridge that kept tripping its thermal overload. My trusty Fluke 87V showed the compressor windings were fine, so I spent an hour checking everything else. The owner, an old timer who was watching, finally asked to see my meter. He pulled out his own and got a reading of 0.8 ohms on the start winding, while mine showed a clean 3.2. My meter's leads were so worn the internal resistance was throwing off low ohm readings. I've had that meter for over a decade and never thought to check the leads. How many of you actually test your meter leads for resistance before diagnosing a compressor? I feel like an idiot.

Rant: My tongs broke right in the middle of a big scroll order

I was working on a set of 20 iron scrolls for a gate in my shop last Tuesday. I had the piece at a bright orange heat and went to twist it, but the reins on my old tongs just snapped clean off. I had to grab the hot end with my vise grips to finish the twist before it cooled too much. Has anyone else had a tong failure like that, and what's your go-to quick fix?

DAE check the actual fill weight on their sleeping bags?

I found out my 20-degree bag has 24 ounces of down, not the 22 ounces listed on the spec sheet, after weighing the fill myself with a kitchen scale.

Had a customer's carbon seatpost fail on a routine service ride last Thursday. The 'just a light torque' crowd is wrong.

It was a 2021 model, not even that old. I'd just done a full strip and rebuild, including greasing the binder bolt threads with Park Tool PPL-1. Torqued it to the spec on the post, 5.5 Nm. Customer took it for a test spin around the block, heard a crack, and the post slipped. Found a hairline fracture right at the clamp area. Everyone says you just need a light touch with carbon, but I think the bigger issue is inconsistent manufacturing on the cheaper end. This was a known brand's second-tier model. How many of you have seen similar failures that weren't from overtightening?
