Pro tip: I taped a red flashlight to my tripod leg and finally stopped fumbling in the dark
Last Saturday at a dark sky spot outside Flagstaff I kept dropping lens caps and bumping my mount every time I reached for my phone light. So I wrapped a cheap red headlamp around one tripod leg with the beam pointed at my gear, and suddenly I could change batteries and check settings without wrecking my night vision or my framing. Does anyone else rig up something like this, or do you just memorize where every knob is by feel?
