Hot take: masking tape saved my butt on a silver repaint after a tack cloth left streaks
I was spraying a silver bumper in the booth on Tuesday and after I wiped it down with tack cloth, these weird streaks showed up in the base coat that I couldn't figure out. Turns out my tack cloth was too old and left residue on the panel, which silver shows like crazy. I ended up scuffing it back down, hitting it with wax and grease remover, and using fresh masking tape around all my edges before re-spraying. Came out clean the second time and the customer never knew. Anyone else had tack cloth ruin a job or is it just me being cheap with old supplies?
