Brake fluid flush intervals got me after 30k miles on my Tacoma

I've been turning wrenches for about 12 years now and I always thought the whole brake fluid flush thing was just a upsell from the big shops. Last month I pulled the calipers on my 2006 Tacoma with 180k miles and the fluid looked like iced tea with rust flakes floating around. The pedal felt fine, no sponginess, but the bleeder screws were practically seized and the slide pins were crusty. I flushed it with a $35 vacuum bleeder kit from Autozone and used two quarts of Dot 3, then checked the old fluid with a test strip I got off Amazon. It showed 3% moisture and the boiling point had dropped to like 340 degrees, which scared me a bit since I do some mountain driving in Colorado. So now I'm on the every 2 year schedule regardless of mileage, just to stop the corrosion before it starts. Has anyone else seen caliper failures that trace back to old fluid on high mile rigs, or am I the only one who skipped this for too long?
