I doubted you could do a whole chicken in the air fryer without it drying out

Tried it last weekend with a 4 pound bird, spatchcocked it first and it came out juicy after 45 minutes. Anyone have a good rub recipe they swear by for poultry?

I finally tried that fancy olive oil everyone talks about and my regular stuff is better

My sister gave me a $40 bottle of single-origin Italian olive oil for my birthday. I used it for a week on salads and bread. Last night I ran out and had to use my normal $12 grocery store brand. The flavor was way more balanced and less bitter. The expensive one just tasted like grass and made my mouth feel weird. Has anyone else had a 'fancy' ingredient that was a total letdown?

I was at a restaurant supply auction in Tacoma and saw a 20-year-old commercial dishwasher still running like new.

Honestly, it made me wonder what brand of pump and heating element they used back then, because the new ones I see fail in under 5 years.

Shoutout to the old guy at the Port of Seattle who called my dredge a 'floating garden rake'

I was working a job on the Duwamish River last fall, running a 10-inch cutterhead. This older guy, a retired operator I think, was just watching from the dock for a good twenty minutes. When I took a break, he walked over and said, 'Son, you're running that thing like a floating garden rake, just scratching the surface.' He pointed out I was moving too fast for the material, leaving good pay dirt behind. He told me a story about a job in Alaska where they had to go so slow the barge barely moved for a week, but they got every last bit. It stuck with me because I was so focused on production numbers, I forgot the basics. Ever since then, I watch my spoil like a hawk. Has anyone else had a veteran give you a simple tip that completely changed your approach?

My trowel snapped clean in half during a dig last Tuesday.

Was working on a site near Tucson, scraping back a layer. Heard a crack. Blade just broke off at the handle. Had to borrow a spare from the field director. It was a cheap one I bought online for like $12. Totally threw off my rhythm for the day. Anyone have a brand of trowel that actually holds up?

Got a burger from the new drive-thru on Elm Street and it was a total mess

I swung by that new burger spot on Elm Street last Friday, the one with the big neon sign. I ordered their double cheeseburger combo, which was almost $14. When I got home and opened the box, the whole thing was just smashed. The top bun was soggy and stuck to the wrapper, the patties were cold and grey, and there was maybe a teaspoon of sauce. It looked like someone sat on it. I took one bite and it was just bland and sad, like eating wet cardboard. For that price, I expected something at least warm and put together right. Has anyone else tried that place and had a better experience, or was I just unlucky?

Question about those cheap dive knives from online marketplaces

I bought a 'professional' dive knife for 25 bucks off one of those big online marketplaces last fall. It looked good in the pictures, stainless steel and a serrated edge. First real job with it was a simple line cut on a buoy in Galveston Bay. The blade snapped clean off at the hilt when I put any real pressure on it. Not a bend, a full snap. I was left holding a useless handle 30 feet down. Had to surface, get a backup, and go back down, which killed about an hour of billable time. That 25 dollar knife probably cost me 300 in lost work. The metal was clearly junk. Has anyone found a truly reliable brand for a basic utility knife that won't fail like that?

I finally saw my own video on a phone screen and realized my fancy edits were just annoying.

I spent 3 hours on a single transition in Premiere Pro, but watching it on my friend's iPhone 12 made it look like a messy, distracting flash that added nothing to the point I was trying to make. Has anyone else had a moment where a simple change in how you view your own work completely flipped your approach?
