Found out a valve cover gasket job on a 2014 Civic pays 1.3 hours book time and I laughed out loud
Was pricing out a job for a regular at my bay in Akron and pulled up the labor guide just to double check myself, and it flat out said 1.3 hours for a job that takes me about 25 minutes with a ratchet and a 10mm. I get why the guide exists for warranty and insurance work, but has anyone else seen a bigger gap between book time and real time on a job?
Book time being way off is normal on stuff like that, and what helped me was just tracking my own real times for common jobs on a clipboard so I could quote customers honestly instead of scaring them off with the book number. Once I had a few months of my own times written down, pricing got way easier and nobody felt cheated either way. The gap you saw is real, but your own records will always beat some guide made for warranty claims.
