My buddy swore by a specific torque for spark plugs on a Ford 5.4L

He told me to crank them to 28 ft-lbs, said it was the only way to prevent them from blowing out. I did it on a 2004 F-150 last month and it felt way too tight. Turns out the spec is actually 26 ft-lbs, and I ended up stripping the threads in the aluminum head. Had to do a time-sert repair that cost the customer an extra $300. Anyone have a go-to method for checking specs you actually trust?

Honestly, I just grab the factory service manual for that exact year and model. Tbh, even two pounds over on aluminum is asking for trouble.

Yeah, and even the manual's specs can be wrong sometimes.
