TIL my trick for a stuck caliper slide pin was actually making things worse

I overheard a tech at the NAPA counter mention that using a regular hammer to free a pin can mushroom the end. I'd been doing that for months, thinking the extra force was the answer. What's the right way to get a truly seized one out without wrecking it?

I used to do the same thing. A good slide pin hammer and some heat is the way to go.
