Update: old timer at the parts counter in Dayton told me I torque lug nuts wrong and now I feel dumb
Stopped by a parts store in Dayton last Tuesday for brake pads and got to chatting with the guy behind the counter, he's been turning wrenches for 41 years. I mentioned I hit lugs with the impact and call it done, and he just shook his head and goes "you're stretching studs, kid." Showed me his torque stick and a cheater bar he keeps in his trunk, said he's seen 3 wheels come off cars in his career because of over-torquing. I've been doing it my way for 8 years and never had a comeback, so now I'm second guessing myself. Anybody here actually had a wheel fail from this or is he just old school?
