I finally fixed a weird transponder issue with a ham radio trick
Last Tuesday in Tucson, I was chasing an intermittent squawk code drop on a Cessna 172 that had two shops stumped. I tried the usual suspect, the coax and antenna, but nothing tested bad. Out of desperation, I hooked up a $25 scanner I use for my ham setup and found a loose shield connection right at the BNC connector that my meter missed. Has anyone else used radio gear to catch faults that standard avionics testers overlook?
