Took 4 hours to chase one intermittent fault on a CRJ, felt like a win when it was just a chafed wire
Last Tuesday I had a CRJ with a flap disagree light that only showed up when the gear came up. I spent about 4 hours chasing it. The book said check the position sensor, then the wiring, then the control unit. I checked the sensor first, it looked fine. Then I started wiggling wires in the tail cone. Nothing. I was about to swap the control unit when I noticed a spot where the bundle rubbed against a bracket. The insulation was worn through on one wire, just barely touching metal when the airframe flexed. I taped it up and rerouted it, ran the flaps 6 times, no light. The captain came back and asked what it was, I told him a 3 cent piece of tape and 4 hours of my life. He laughed and said thats the job. I know it sounds small but catching that before it turned into a bigger write up felt good. Anyone else had one of those where the fix was tiny but finding it took forever?
