My date walked out after exactly 37 minutes
We were at a diner and he just got up, said 'This isn't working,' and left. I was mid-sentence about my job. What makes someone decide to cut a date off at such a specific time?

That "mental timer" idea @joelwells mentioned is so real. I read that people often decide in the first few minutes if a date will work. Maybe he hit his limit and just had to go.

People have a mental timer for how much boredom they'll take before leaving.

People stick around for reasons way beyond just avoiding boredom, @joelwells. Sometimes it's loyalty, or hoping things will get better. The idea of a simple boredom clock misses all that.
