Question about the push for ultralight packs on every trip

I see a lot of folks saying you have to go ultralight to enjoy backpacking, but I think that's not always true. Carrying a bit more comfort gear, like a real camp chair, has made my multi-day hikes way more enjoyable!

Remember that ultralight is just one style of hiking.

You mention ultralight is just one style, but have you seen how serious some folks get? They'll spend hundreds to cut a few ounces from their pack weight. My buddy brings a heavy cast iron pan and still enjoys the trail just fine. Why do we treat lightweight gear like it's the only way to hike? Isn't the point just to get outside and have fun?

Logan's right about the cost, but that money buys more than lighter gear. It buys less pain on the trail and more energy to actually enjoy the views. Cutting pack weight is how a lot of us keep hiking into our older years.
