The old trail I used to hate is now my favorite shortcut
Last week I was mapping out a weekend loop near Asheville and realized I kept defaulting to the same Forest Service road connector I swore off 3 years ago. Back then it was all blowdowns and a washed out creek crossing that soaked my boots every single time. Last month I hiked it again on a whim and someone had rerouted the whole thing with switchbacks and stone steps. It cut 2 miles off my usual route and honestly I'm a little sad the rough version is gone, but the view from the new overlook beats it. Anyone else have a route that got rehabbed and completely changed your opinion of it?
