Just changed my mind about RoboCop 2014 remake
I used to hate that remake with a passion. Told anyone who'd listen that it was pointless and trash. But last week I watched it again on a rainy Saturday and realized it's actually a solid action movie if you stop comparing it to the original. The satire about drones and police militarization hits way harder now in 2024 than it did back then. Has anyone else gone back and rewatched a remake they hated and saw it different?

You know what, that's a really fair take. I had the same experience with the Total Recall remake actually. Hated it for years, then caught it on cable and realized it was a decent sci-fi action flick on its own terms. The drone stuff in RoboCop 2014 stuck with me too, especially the way they showed how automated policing could go sideways. It's not the original and never will be, but that doesn't make it worthless.

Actually Keeler directed that drone scene, not Padilha. Small detail but worth noting.

Used to be one of those guys who'd roll my eyes at anyone who said they liked the RoboCop remake. Called it a soulless cash grab for years without actually giving it a fair shot. Then a buddy made me sit through it last year and I had to eat my words a little. The satire might not hit as hard as Verhoeven's version but that drone sequence you mentioned is genuinely uncomfortable to watch. Still prefer the original but I don't trash the new one in conversations anymore.
