Caught myself being the loud neighbor after 2 years of complaining
I moved into a duplex in Portland last spring and spent months grumbling about my neighbor's Saturday morning music sessions. Then last week I was recording a podcast at 10pm and my neighbor knocked on the wall. I got annoyed at first, but then I counted how many times I'd complained about noise in our group chat. It was 14 complaints from me, all about them, and suddenly it hit me that I was doing the exact same thing. They never said anything rude about it, just asked if I could use headphones after 9. Now I keep a pair of wired earbuds by my desk and honestly, my recordings sound better anyway. Has anyone else had that flip where you realize you're the problem neighbor all along?
That wall knock probably felt awful at first, but it sounds like they handled it way better than most people would... kind of refreshing to see someone actually communicate instead of just stewing about it. The earbuds thing is a solid fix too, cause once you hear your own audio through them, you realize how much background noise you were missing anyway. Now you got a better podcast and a neighbor who doesn't hate you, so really you came out ahead on the whole deal.
