Rant: my neighbor said my fence looks like a drunk built it, so now I'm out $400 and wondering if he was right
He stood there with his coffee and just said 'that gate sags like a tired horse' and honestly it did. I could either spend $400 on new posts and hinges like he suggested, or leave it and let him keep smirking at me over the property line. Do you fix stuff when a neighbor calls it out, or dig in and ignore them?
My old neighbor Dave did the same thing to me about 3 years back, pointed at my crooked mailbox post and said it leaned like it was trying to leave the yard. I told him to mind his business and left it up for another year, and you know what, every time I pulled in the driveway that thing bugged me. So yeah, I used to be all about digging in and never letting a neighbor win, but honestly that just made me stew about it while he went on with his day. I finally fixed the post myself for like 40 bucks and felt dumb for waiting so long. The money stings either way, but if the gate really does sag, you will notice it every single day and he wins twice by getting in your head. Fix it for you, not for him, and next time he smirks just tell him the horse got a new job.
