The church potluck cake that ruined my trust in 'secret ingredient' recipes
Last spring in Tulsa, an older lady brought a carrot cake with mayo in it and everyone raved. I tried it and knew right away, but I kept my mouth shut since she was so proud. Then she admitted it was boxed mix on Sunday afternoon after the whole congregation ate it. Now I ask every single person if their "family recipe" is actually from a box before I take a bite. Anyone else gotten burned by a fake homemade bake at a community event?

Man my buddy Dave got fooled so bad at a church picnic in Ohio. This lady brought these "grandma's famous" brownies and he took like three of them bragging about the fudge texture. Turns out she dumped a can of black beans in a box mix and called it her secret. Dave only found out when she handed out the recipe card to everyone laughing about the "protein hack". He still brings it up every time someone mentions potlucks. Can't trust nobody with a smile and a casserole dish these days.
