I finally told a regular I'd been cutting his hair wrong for a year
He came in yesterday and said, 'You know, my wife pointed out you've been fading my left side a full inch higher than the right,' and I had to admit I'd never noticed until he turned his head just right in the chair.

Absolutely, @uma668 is right about the mirrors. I had a car for six months before my brother got in and asked why the passenger mirror was angled so weird. I just never looked at it from that side.

Look at it from the barber's side though. You're focused on the cut, not comparing sides inch by inch. Clients move their head a lot, and lighting can be tricky. A small difference can hide in plain sight until someone points it out from a new angle.
