Walked into a new shop in Denver, the clippers were filthy

Stopped by a place off Colfax that opened two weeks ago, the guy's clipper blade had hair and dust caked between the teeth, looked like it hadn't been cleaned since the box. He went straight from one head to the next without even wiping the guard down, and I counted three different clients in 20 minutes. Has anyone else run into this at new spots and walked out, or do you say something to the barber first?

That "hadn't been cleaned since the box" line hit home for me. I had the same thing happen at a spot in Austin about a year ago, one of those trendy spots that just opened near my work. Dude had hair stuck all in the clipper oil and the brush was just sitting there untouched. I watched him go from a guy with long curly hair to me without even wiping the blade down, and I just stood up mid cut and told him I forgot my wallet. He looked at me like I was crazy but I'd rather look stupid than walk around with someone else's dandruff in my neckline. New places always seem to think being cool means you can skip the basic hygiene stuff, which makes zero sense to me. If you can't keep your tools clean on week two, what's that place gonna look like in six months?

Wait, is basic hygiene really the thing that makes or breaks a haircut for you? Honestly, I'd be more worried about whether they actually know how to blend the back, because most of these new spots are all vibe and zero skill, and no amount of clean clippers fixes a crooked line.
