Tried a cold siphon brew for my last meal drink and it came out way better than hot
So I've been thinking about my last meal a lot lately because my uncle passed in March and it got me wondering what I'd want on the way out. I always assumed a hot cup of coffee would be it, like a nice dark roast in a diner mug. But two months ago I tried cold siphon brewing in my kitchen in Boise, just 3 cups of water and 30 grams of coarse grounds, and it honestly changed how I think about a final drink. The brew sat for 14 hours and came out so smooth I could taste cherry and cocoa, no bitterness at all. I tried the same beans hot the next day and it was fine but flat compared to the cold version. What surprised me was how the cold one felt more like a dessert than a morning drink, which is exactly what I'd want at the end. Has anyone else messed with cold brew as a last sip instead of the usual hot cup, or am I overthinking this?
Kind of funny how the things we save for special moments keep turning out better when we don't rush them. Same deal with slow cooked food or a good whiskey, time just does something heat can't.
