Customer told me my spoke tension was off. He was right.
Had a guy come in last week with a vintage Fuji, wanted a wheel trued. I did my usual thing, got it spinning straight, handed it back. He took one look, plucked a few spokes on the drive side, and said the left side is way too loose. I checked with my tensiometer, he was dead on. I had been rushing the final tension for years. Now I take an extra pass on every wheel. Anyone else had a customer teach them something basic?

Cracked myself up reading this because I've been THAT customer before. I walked into a shop with my beat up old cross bike and asked the mechanic to check my spoke tension because the wheel was making a weird noise. He plucked a couple spokes, looked at me, and said "your left side is basically a harp." I had no idea what he was talking about, but he spent 15 minutes teaching me how to use a tensiometer. I felt like a TOTAL idiot but I've been a better wrencher ever since. Sometimes you learn the MOST from the person who calls you out, even if it stings a little.
