My rear derailleur hanger snapped at mile 12 on the Los Gatos trail and I rode home in one gear
Happened last Saturday about 12 miles in when I shifted under load on a climb, and the hanger just folded over like a cheap spoon. I pulled the chain apart with my quick link tool, shortened it, and ran it as a single speed to limp back to the parking lot on Blossom Hill Road. What got me was how rideable it still was once I stopped fighting it and picked one cog that worked for both flats and hills. Has anyone else just left a bike set up single speed after a hanger failure instead of hunting down the exact replacement?
