My friend said skipping episodes ruins the whole experience

I used to skip the filler episodes in supernatural procedurals to get to the main plot faster, but a buddy from my book club told me I was missing character growth moments that make the payoff worth it. Now I watch every single episode even if they drag, and honestly I think I connect more with the characters now. Has anyone else changed how they watch shows because of something a friend pointed out?

The "character growth moments" thing is real. I used to skip filler in The X-Files back in the day and then wondered why some emotional beats in the finale felt flat. Started watching everything and yeah, those slow episodes are where Mulder and Scully actually become people instead of plot devices. Now I treat filler like cheap pizza - even when it's bad, it fills you up and gives you context.

Cheap pizza" is way too generous. Some of those filler episodes are more like stale breadsticks - you still eat them because you're hungry for context, but you're not gonna brag about it to anyone.
