TIL that $45 'limited series' box set was just the first season

Picked up a shiny Blu-ray set at a thrift store in Austin thinking I'd scored a complete story, turns out it ends on a cliffhanger with no season 2 anywhere. The box art said 'limited series' but the inside disc menu literally said 'season one finale,' so I basically paid $45 for a teaser. Has anyone else been burned by marketing calling an unfinished show 'limited' just to move units?

I saw a thread on Reddit last week where someone pointed out that studios are using "limited series" as a loophole now, since it lets them sell a full box set without promising more. Netflix did the same thing with a couple of shows that were clearly meant to be ongoing but got cancelled quietly. It's a real bummer when you drop that kind of cash and just get a trailer with better packaging.

Next thing you know they'll start calling two-part specials "sagas" and charging us double. At this point "limited" just means "we know you'll be mad if we call it what it is." I half expect them to release a show called "The Final Season" and then cancel it before the first episode airs. Streaming really turned into the wild west, except the cowboys all have marketing degrees.
