Found out the hard way that quenching in old motor oil makes a nasty smoke cloud in my shop

Last Tuesday I used some 10W-30 that had been sitting in a bucket for 2 years and the smoke was so thick I couldn't see my anvil, has anyone figured out a cheap oil that doesn't smoke like crazy?

Man, a little smoke never hurt anyone. You sure it wasn't the fumes getting to your head?

Whoa, I gotta disagree hard-secondhand smoke is literally classified as a known human carcinogen by the WHO.
