A guy on a forum told me my backup system was just a hobby, and he was right
For about 2 years I ran what I called a backup plan, which was really just one external drive sitting next to my laptop and a folder called New folder (3) on the desktop. Last week I posted a screenshot asking if my setup was fine, and a guy replied with one line: "That's not a backup, that's a copy in the same room as the fire." Fair point, and honestly it stung because I work in a job where I see what one bad room does to everything in it. So I moved a drive to my brother's place in Reno, set the laptop to run a nightly sync, and wrote down the steps on an index card because I forget stuff. Took me about 40 minutes total, most of it untangling cables. Anyone else get humbled by a random comment and end up redoing a whole system over it?
How often does that nightly sync actually run? I set something like that up once and found out months later it had been failing quietly the whole time.
