Am I the only one who tried to save money by moving back in with my boomer parents in Phoenix and realized they're the reason I'm broke?
I moved back 6 months ago to save $1,200 a month on rent and my dad charged me $400 for "storage" and made me pay for his Costco runs. Now I'm more broke than before and my boomer mom keeps saying "we had it harder" while she refinanced her house at 2.9%. Anyone else get baited into moving home and end up worse off?
Figure out what your actual "rent" is before you move back, because the money is only half of it. My cousin did the same thing and her mom expected free rides to doctor visits, Costco trips, and help with the yard every weekend. That's 15 to 20 hours a month you're giving up, which at any normal wage is another $300 to $500 on top of what you hand them. Your parents aren't ripping you off on purpose, they just see it as the family deal, but nobody puts that part in writing before you unpack.
