Picked a cheaper CNC router over a big brand and kind of regret it now
I had to choose between a $3,000 ShopBot and a $1,200 no name machine off Amazon 6 months ago. Went with the cheap one because I figured all routers cut the same. It works fine for small signs but the software is buggy and support barely replies. Anyone else go budget on a tool and wish you'd just saved up longer?

Getting Mach 3 or even UCCNC on there can sometimes fix the software issues without spending a lot. Your main headache now is keeping the spindle aligned and the frame rigid enough for repeatable cuts. If you can tune those mechanical bits, that Amazon box will at least earn its keep before you upgrade.

$1,200 for a buggy Amazon special that ghosts you on support, oof. I'd say you basically paid for the privilege of becoming the tech support department for your own machine. At least you got a nice paperweight out of it if the software fully craps out, lmao.
