My dad would not let me take the SAT prep class at Fremont High because he "already paid for my brain"
So junior year rolls around and everyone in my class is signing up for this $350 prep course at the community center on Paseo Padre, and when I asked my dad he goes "your brain is free, use it" and that was that. Turns out he just did not want to pay and dressed it up like some lesson about grit. I bombed the math section and ended up at a state school two hours from home while my buddy Dev took the class and got into UCLA. Did your folks ever dress up being cheap as some big life wisdom?
