Vent: my dad pushed me into a pre-med track at 18 and I bombed every single class
He swore up and down that anything besides doctor or lawyer was a waste of a tuition check, so I spent 2 years at Ohio State chasing a degree I never wanted. I failed organic chem twice and finally switched to forestry, where I got straight B's without hating my life. He still brings it up at Thanksgiving like I threw something away. Did anyone else get talked into a major by a parent who had no clue what the job actually pays?
Man, I feel this. My old man did the same thing with accounting and I lasted one semester of intermediate before I tapped out. Here's the thing though, that Thanksgiving stuff usually fades once you're a few years into a real job and he sees you're not broke. Next time he brings it up, just hit him with what a forester actually makes and how many openings there are, because there's a ton of old guys retiring from that field right now. You didn't throw anything away, you stopped paying for a degree that wasn't going to pay you back.
