My uncle told me his crew in Toledo still uses a 3/4-inch drive for everything, even on the big stuff.
We were talking about that new hydro test on the big boiler at the plant, and he just shrugged and said 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it.' It hit different because I've been pushing for newer, lighter gear for my own team... but maybe he's got a point about sticking with what you know works. Anyone else's shop still running on mostly old-school tools?

Saw a forum post where a guy said his shop's old 3/4 impacts outlast three of the new battery ones.

Switched back to old ratchets after a new torque wrench snapped on us.

It's the same with so many things now. My old kitchen mixer from the seventies still runs perfect, but the new one I bought last year already sounds sick. They just don't build stuff to last anymore, it's all about making you buy another one in a few years. It's a real shame when tools you depend on can't take the stress.
