Saw a 1920s riveted boiler getting cut apart at a scrapyard in Gary and it stopped me cold
Stopped by a scrapyard in Gary, Indiana last Saturday to drop off some old pipe and there was a riveted boiler from the 1920s sitting right in the yard. They were getting ready to torch it down for scrap and I just stood there looking at the lap seams and the rivet pattern. Whoever built that thing laid every single rivet by hand and it held pressure for probably 60 years before it got retired. The yard guy said they get a couple old boilers a month and most of them still look solid. Does anybody here know a shop that saves old riveted sections for training or display, because it felt wrong watching that one go to the torch.
