Tried preheating tube ends before rolling and the expansion came out dead even
Rolling a 2 inch SA-178 tube into a boiler drum last Tuesday, I hit a stretch where the torque kept creeping up weird, so I grabbed the rosebud and warmed the tube sheet to about 200 degrees before rolling. Figured I might just burn time, but every roller came off the same feel and the wall thickness didn't thin near as bad. Mic'd them after and got consistent expansion to within a couple thousandths across 40 tubes. Guys on the crew said I was overthinking it, but have any of you tried warming the sheet on a cold morning instead of fighting the torque?
