Book club was ready to break up over 'The Silent Patient'. I got everyone to watch the author explain the twist and now we're cool.

Yeah @the_jamie I used to agree... but hearing the author's reason actually helped.

Yeah but what if the author changes their mind later... like an interview years after the book comes out? @the_jamie makes a good point but the "official answer" might not even stay official.

Wait, having the author explain it would totally kill the book for me. Half the fun is arguing about what the twist means after you finish. Like, was the main character actually fooled, or was she playing a longer game? Getting the "official answer" just ends the conversation. Isn't the messy debate the whole point of a book club?
