Hot take: My friend said to skip the last 50 pages of 'The Goldfinch' and she was totally right

We read it for our club in Portland last month, and she told me the ending drags and ruins the mood. I pushed through anyway and felt totally let down by that rushed epilogue. It made our whole debate about whether the journey was worth it way more heated. Anyone else have a book where the ending just fell flat for them?

My book club in Austin had the same fight over The Goldfinch. The last 50 pages felt like a different, worse book. It took a messy but real story and tried to tie it up too neat. I wish I had listened and skipped it too.

Maybe the neat ending was the point, showing how memory smooths out chaos.
